DAWN IN SPRING

The Southern Ocean wakes at dawn,

Sea birds fly my way,

I’m looking for the whales that spawn,

Here at Lorne’s new day.

You’re sleeping like it’s winter still,

The air is full of spray,

Kookaburras laugh on that hill

That faces Apollo Bay.

Another chapter of my life,

The summer of Oh Thirteen,

Such peace without the strife,

In a world that I have seen.

The sky begins to turn to blue,

The wind is down to nought,

I’m looking at the Master’s view,

For me a sobering thought.
