Practice Examination for VCE Business Management candidates.
Friday November 11
Room 1
9.00am to 11.00am
Closed Book
Candidates should rememember that 11 November is also Rememberance Day and we all should have a minutes silence at 11am in honour of the soldiers, nurses and people who were involved in World War 1. Some of them were called ‘Originals’, ANZACS who fought in Gallipoli and many were from the Grampians region. The life we lead to today, our future prospects and our chance of a good education is because of the sacrifice many of the ‘Originals’ made. Lest we Forget.
Candidates please note: Your practice examinations will be marked over the weekend and be availbale for collection on Monday 14 November. You can collect them from the office. I will be available for consultation on this exam or any other matters pertaining to your revison during normal class times next week.
I will be unavaiable Friday 11 November as I have professional development at Horsham. Your exam will be supervised by relief teacher on Friday. Good luck with your revision and I look forward to leaving comments on this revision paper.

QANTAS and The Fair Work Australia Act.
Unpacking the drama that is Industrial Relations.
Whilst our exam is printed and awaiting exam day, lets pause to see what we have learnt about Industrial Relations and how it is playing out at the airports and parliament.
The lock-out of staff by QANTAS has been suspended by the Federal Government when it sent both parties to Fair Work Australia for a ruling. The directive from Fair Work Australia has sent QANTAS back to work until arbitration commences in 3 weeks time. Recall the powers of Fair Work Australia under the legislation passed by the Labor Government to supersede Howard’s Work Choices Law.
Whilst in many ways it is a test case, QANTAS has given us the perfect opportunity to understand how Fair Work Australia operates under extreme conditions. Whether we agree with QANTAS’s management or not isn’t important. What matters is our understanding of the ethics and socially responsible dealings of management with workers.

Some Factors to consider in Revison of Unit 3.

Voluntary Redundancy
Vountary redundancy means there is no longer a position for one or more employees. A worker make elect to be made redundant.
Redundancy package is a payout they receive when they are made redundant. It contains money for each year they were employed by the organisation
Who is a Shareholder?
A. They are people who invest in corporations (may be listed on the ASX) and they expect a return on the investment. The return on the investment is in the form of dividends. Shares may also increase in value if the corporation is successful and makes a profit. I suggest you look at Iluka for an example of a corporation that has increased in value this year and also declared a .20 cent dividend per share.
How do we manage Quality in large scale organisations?
Firstly, identify what quality is. A company either produces (or imports) goods for sale or delivers a service. This is where the buyer determines if the quality is as good as it was expected to be. Expectations are important. Goods and services that exceed expectations mean happy consumers who will be return customers and also recommenders of the corporations products.
Large Scale Organisations seek to control this competitive advantage by ensuring their goods and services are at a certain standard and that they maintain that standard. This maintainance of a standard is important in today’s competitive business world where quality is very important.
Always look at what the good or service is that the organisation is involved in. Having decided what the company does, employ one of the following methods as your Quality Control Measure. You know them!
Quality Assurance System
Total Quality Management
Total Productive Maintenance
One of these methods will suit the operations managment of the organisation you are dealing with. If you know these quality measures well, the right one will be obvious for your situation and you will be able to explain why it fits.
